LENUS Handcrafted No 73
Lately I've been wanting to use natural skin care and beauty products. The cosmetics and skin care industry is teeming with chemicals and artificialities. After experimenting this Summer with acne treatments, the number one thing causing my breakouts was sugar. After detoxing for a few months, I now notice a difference in my skin even after eating the smallest bit of anything sweet. If the sugar is affecting my body so drastically on the outside, imagine how much damage it's causing within. I was wanting to make more health conscience choices when it came to what I was putting on my skin. Thus began the hunt.

Typically when I want to find a product that is organic and all-natural, I do some internet research and opt for small businesses. I like being able to build relationships with the person I am trusting with my skin health, rather than some fat cat run company who doesn't  know you from a monkey's uncle. After researching for a bit, I came across LENUS Handcrafted. The company is based in San Diego, so I feel even better supporting a local business. What I love about these products is that they contain no artificial ingredients or colors, so I can feel good about what I am putting on my skin.
One of my favorite products from the LENUS line is the face mist toner. I'm typically not one to purchase face mists. I never understood the difference they made until now. This product works wonders for hydrating the skin. I sprayed it on over top of my makeup, but you could definitely just do a few spritzes of this, rather than foundation for a dewy finish. It smells like lavender, so it feels like you just walked outside for a California hike.

I've always loved the outdoors. It's been ingrained in me since childhood - the smell of sage, the brush of the wild grasses - the smell of dirt. Yeah, I get made fun of for that one. But anyone who was raised in a rural area understands what I mean.

Nature is my happy place.

It always has been. Being outside, moving and breathing in the air allows me to think. No matter how many stresses life brings, taking time in a quiet place outside always brings me peace. Maybe it's because nature is untouched - just as it was when it was created by God. There's no distraction. It's just me and Him - enjoying each other's company.

My mom made a joke today as she was photographing these images. She remarked that I always take my pictures in the dirt. Granted, that may be partially true.

I'm the girl that goes exploring, whether I'm in hiking gear, or a dress and a pair of heels. Unconventional? Maybe. But that's how I roll. I have yet to break and ankle, and I'm not about to let a pair of shoes get in the way of memory making.
I have been working on a minimalist wardrobe. Being away at school has taught me the value of styling a few basic pieces many ways. I picked up this top from Target during a $5 t-shirt sale.

This skirt from Romwe is another piece I've been loving for mixing and matching. The dark charcoal color serves as the perfect neutral to pair with my autumn toned wardrobe.

Being Real

August 16, 2016

I've been excited to see a lot more women embracing authenticity lately. It feels like a movement - like the world is finally growing weary of putting on a show of comparisons - of ridicule. A lot of these things will never die off in their entirety, but as for me? I'm ready to start living bravely- to be open about my convictions, downfalls and triumphs alike. There is such a raw beauty in being open with one another - not getting caught in a misguided expectation for physical perfection, and being willing to admit to our faults. We are all constantly comparing ourselves - if only I could be as pretty, as organized, as godly as her. No. Just no. Because behind every seemingly "perfect" woman is an ordinary girl dealing with her own struggles. Even from a biblical perspective - the Bible doesn't sugar coat. Everything is plain, simple and forthright. Why should we be any different?

The reality of it all is that the world has gone generation after generation playing the perfection card, the, "I have a happy life" card. Social media has done us all a huge favor, making this problem a thousand times harder.

We are all humans.

It's time to end comparisons. Challenge yourself because God pushes you to, not because of jealousy or envy. We all have a lot of differences, but in a lot of ways we are all so the same. We are a lost animal, and we need guidance from a Savior.

Dare to be bold. Dare to be brave. We're all in this.

College Makeup Essentials

August 15, 2016

Let's be real for a moment. Makeup in college either happens in twenty minutes, or not at all. Before I went to school last year, painting on a full face of makeup for an hour and a half was my jam. After a year at away at uni? Mmm, maybe not so much. I still tend to be that girl that prefers to have something on my face in order to feel like I put some effort into my life. Here are a few of my favorite, quick get-ready items for a school day.

My sister turned me onto this one - it's $18 and will last you a lifetime. It makes all of the difference in the world - brows on in two minutes - staying power all day.

Also a recommendation from Chloe - the best for a stunning eye shadow look in just seconds. I smudge the cream base on my eyelid and blend in the crease with a dark brown shadow. It looks like I took a good bit of time creating a shimmering shadow look, when in reality I can throw this on and be out the door in no time. Plus it lasts all day.

I've loved this product for three years now. It always keeps my eye shadow in place and lasts forever. In three years I've purchased a new tube twice.

I love this product for quick, easy, voluminous, dark lashes. It's not waterproof- my only complaint.

Love this eyeliner so much. It's a breeze to put on, the pigment is$8 a pen. College friendly convenience - college friendly price. Plus the staying power is on point.

What are some of your beauty- go-to's for college?

Morro Bay

August 11, 2016

I always joke with Jon that my spirit animal is an otter. I mean - they float around, eat and play day after day. Life goals. Okay, maybe not really, but still. One of my favorite highlights from our Summer coast trip was swimming with the otters in Morro Bay. There was a little band of them hanging out in the water not far from the shore, and I made an impulsive decision to hop in with them in my shorts and shirt. Best decision ever. They were so interested and curious as to what I was doing - about three in particular took special notice and kept on swimming closer and closer trying to figure me out.
