Outside the Box

Sometimes I get in a little rut of just wearing dresses as they are, and find myself putting aside the idea of thinking outside the box. I think this is due a lot to Summer weather as well, which is one of the reasons I adore Fall/Winter fashion. Layering is so much fun!

Today I decided to pair a plain, white button down shirt with this lovely, 1950s frock from the uh-mazing Dalena Vintage. You girls know those Etsy shops that literally make your jaw drop? Well this is one of those shops... from the items in stock to the eye catching photography, everything is on point.

At last, I've gotten my hands on a Limecrime Velvetines lip stain! I've been dying to try this formula for the longest time. I knew I wanted a deep burgundy lip shade for fall, and Limcrime Wicked seemed like the perfect shade. I do love the color, but it takes me three or four coats to reach that perfect opaque look- which leaves more room for error, especially when working with a dark color.

I have been in love with Ballet Bird designs for ages. Ballet Bird makes the most gorgeous, elegant leather ballet flats in custom sizes. The designs are stellar and one of a kind. I am excited to pair these with bunches of outfits in the upcoming months- they are just one of those pairs of shoes that will always go with pretty close to anything. If you are interested in picking up the design I am wearing, you can find them here.

Come Fly with Me

Can I just say, I am tired of being tired? Lately it's been so weird, I think I am sleepwalking half of the time. I can't even carry on a good conversation with people. Ever have those days? I think it must be from being so busy lately- I'm used to a laid back schedule, and the last month has been nothing but craziness.

Onto a more fashionable note ;) Can you believe this dress is from the 1980s!? I love it when I can find newer vintage that resembles even older pieces. First of all because they are usually a lot more affordable, and secondly- they are often times a bit more durable. This lovely frock is from Vintage Destiny. This is another shop that's great for finding bunches of gorgeous vintage in one place.

So I discovered a pretty neat little story behind my 1957 LIFE magazine. The cover still has an address label stuck to the front, reading "Dr Earl D Gere." A couple of days ago I decided to do some research. Turns out Gere was a chiropractor in Kinsley Kansas- I even found the home the magazine was originally delivered to on Google Maps- go figure! The doctor was born in 1890 and died in 1970- over 40 years ago. Can't help but find this all super interesting...

A Fail-Safe

September 10, 2014

I'm not sure if I'm the only one, but as a blogger I've realized that I have a fail-safe location- one place that I can almost always fall back on when I need a pretty spot for outfit pictures, and fast. For me, it's my local park. I think I've shot photos here 6 times or so in the past. For one thing it's close to home, and for another, it's green! Summer has been lingering here in Cali- September has been ridiculously hot- yuck... how about all of you? What's the weather been like lately?

I decided to keep things pretty simple for today's outfit, and let the dress be the statement piece. There's nothing like a vintage, floral dress for Summer! This 50s piece is from Dane Vintage, an Etsy shop I've had my eye on for some time now. If you decide to stop by, you will know why (poet and I didn't know it ;). Bunches and bunches of gorgeous vintage pieces- can you imagine how many amazing photo-shoots could be inspired from all of that loveliness?

As lovely as it would be to lay in the grass and read up on etiquette, my days have been filled to the brim with rather different activities as of late. School started up- which means busy, busy, busy. In a good way of course, but it seems any moment I get to kick back and relax is precious. At least I can imitate a chill, laid back lifestyle in my photographs ;)

Gone with the Wind

Three years ago, this past Monday, I started a blog. My little internet corner has brought me countless adventures, and continues to be a source for exciting things to come. I feel so blessed to have met so many awesome ladies through the blogosphere, and hope to continue to reach out and get to know new people in the years to come. Thank you all for your support- you are awesome!

I have been saving this little dress for just this occasion.  I am VERY excited to be collaborating with the ever lovely, Diane of Mable Rose for the second time! The designs from this shop never cease to amaze me. Every dress Diane crafts is made with so much love and attention to detail. One of the most amazing things about Mable Rose are the prices. You can pick up a beautiful 1950s style dress for as low as $32 smackaroos! And it doesn't hurt that Diane is one of the sweetest people you will ever meet <3

I am head over heels (no pun intended ;) with these adorable wedges from Walkin on Air! Everything about them screams feminine charm. They seemed like just the thing to slip on for a party! Every detail on these lovelies is crafted just so- from the lace applique, to the cut out detailing on the heels.
