5 Ways to Be Original

December 29, 2012

When your fashion blogging, one thing you want to be is original  No one wants to see the blouse they just found at Kohls two days ago on a blog. A big part of F.B ( fashion blogging, not facebook- haha)  is being original and finding garments that people don't see at their local retailer. But here's the big question, dundundun... how can you afford to shop in a unique place without spending a fortune? Yup folks, believe it or not there is a way to dress super original without breaking the bank.

1. Thrift Stores  I'll talk about this one first because it is my absolute favorite! A thrift store is an excellent way to find great style that is affordable and fun. Plus your thrifted garment is one of a kind!

2. Only a Few Left This is among one of the more "risky" ways to find original styles, but it's sometimes worth a shot. When you are shopping at a more common retailer it is good to look for racks with only a few of a certain style. This could suggest that the garment was well loved by many buyers
( many could own one just like it) or it could mean the store only ordered a few of them, in which case you're in luck!

3. Make Your Own  Is it a little tricky? Yes. But sometimes it is worth it to buckle down and make some of your own clothes. It will most definitely be original because it's the one and only of it's kind!

4. Garage Sales This one goes somewhat hand in hand with number 1. A garage sale is a wonderful option for original clothing. And of course very affordable! I recently found two dresses at a garage sale- a red sundress and a blue David's Bridal gown for 25 cents a piece! Can't beat that now can you?

5. Re-doing/re-purposing Old Things Some of my older followers may remember how I used to re-do things somewhat often. This would mean taking a garment and completely changing it ( removing sleeves or shortening it). This is a little easier than making your own clothes and very rewarding!

Frozen Peppermint Hot Cocoa

Some of you may remember way back when I posted about frozen hot cocoa? Well it's back, with a touch of Christmas, haha. This is super easy to make and it's delicious :-)

-Two hot chocolate packets
-2 candy canes
-Milk
-Vanilla creamer
-2 cups of ice

Empty hot chocolate packets into the blender. Add two cups of ice. Pour in milk until it comes just above the ice. Add about a tablespoon of vanilla creamer.

In a plastic bag, crush the candy canes ( I used an ice cream scoop to smash them with). May I remark this part is great fun- hehe. Empty half the candy can pieces into the blender. Blend until smooth. Pour into a tall glass and garnish with the other half of candy cane pieces.

If you have any questions feel free to comment! Enjoy!

Winter Nights

December 9, 2012

Yesterday evening we attended a beautiful choir/orchestral concert. It was so incredible! To hear the singing and instruments live is simply the best. Not to mention everything looked beautiful! They even had snow machines ( for us poor deprived California folks- haha).

Most Wonderful Time of the Year

December 4, 2012

This past Saturday I went with Jenna to the Mission Inn. It  was so amazing! As soon as you arrive it's like entering a Christmas fairy tale! Every building and street corner was decorated. I took so many pictures ( too many- I counted nearly 700) but I will only share my favorite. Thank you Jenna for a wonderful day I will never forget <3

This was the coolest book store! They sold everything from modern literature to old poetry. When you walked in the floor even creaked! We found a Shakespeare corner with a bunch of old plays in pretty blue covers and a glass case full of really old looking books. When we were in the car on our way home Jenna pulled two beautiful books from the shop out and gifted them to me for my birthday. I will treasure them always <3 <3
