Red Pants Project

September 27, 2011

This weekend I received a pair of red pants that were too short for me. So, I decided on turning them into shorts. All I did was cut them shorter and hem them. Unfortunately as you can see in my picture of the finished shorts, the hem in the back of the shorts is a little longer than the one in the front, so I still have to fix that. I just wanted to show you all my latest project ;-D

Painting Jewelry

September 14, 2011

Here is a quick tip-
To give new life to old jewelry, pull out a bottle of nail polish. Just use the polish like paint and then finish off with clear coat. This is a favorite of mine :-D

Fall's Around the Corner!

September 13, 2011

The calendar still says it's summer but the weather is beginning to change. Fall is one of my favorite seasons, the smells, the food and the feeling that comes with it. Here is an idea for a fun Autumn thing to do.

Riley's farm in Oak Glen is a great place to go for a fall day. You can go for a day to pick apples, spend an evening having dinner in an old colonial, or just enjoy the fun, friendly atmosphere. Check out their website to get  information on upcoming events. http://www.rileysfarm.com/

Girly Fun

September 11, 2011

Spent the evening with my great aunt, cousin, grandma, my grandma's friend, my sister and mom. It was a great time of laughter and I ended up getting to bed at 3:30 am. Needless to say I am very tired today! These pictures are a bit grainy and blurry because the lighting was really bad, sorry!

Baking

September 2, 2011

I did some baking this afternoon. Who doesn't love sugar cookies? They are easy to make and they came out delicious! I added some raisins and coconut.

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). In a small bowl, stir together flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in egg and vanilla. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients. Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls, and place onto ungreased cookie sheets.
  3. Bake 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until golden. Let stand on cookie sheet two minutes before removing to cool on wire racks.

Jewelry Stuff

Jewelry making is a skill that is easy to learn and very helpful. It can also serve as a fun pastime. In the end, it is very rewarding as well. These earrings in the photos above took me about 15 minutes to make. I suggest investing in some needle nose pliers-two pairs, a wire cutter, jump rings, and earring hooks. These basic supplies will get you started in earring making. I hope to be posting an instructional video on how to make them so keep on the look out.

Feather earrings at a store like Forever 21 will cost you $4 at the least. Invest in a bag of craft feathers and make them yourself! I hope to post a video on how to make these as well.
                                                       Old watches make great pendants!

Old things

This was once a maternity dress that I found in my Mom's closet. With just a pair of scissors and a sewing machine to hem the bottom, I turned this into a tunic top. The fabric is from the late 80's, early 90's and that is just what is in style now. If you don't have a sewing machine, try some fabric glue. It won't hold as well as stitches but it will achieve that nice clean hem you want. Something like this goes really well with a belt, cardigan, and a pair of capris.

Matching Jewelry

September 1, 2011

One of the problems I have fairly often is matching my jewelry to my outfits. Here is a quick tip that really works! If you happen to have a blouse or dress that has matching ribbons attached on the sleeves to keep it on the hanger, cut them off and string a pendant onto the ribbons. Tie the ribbons together and you have a necklace that will go perfectly with your outfit!

Re-Purposing

As girls, we often find ourselves gazing into store windows dreaming about the latest blouse, shoes or whatever it may be. Sometimes a garment will captivate us so much that we find ourselves reaching into our bottomless pit called a purse, and pulling out our wallets. Unfortunately, if you are anything like me, you find with dismay that the wallet is empty. You walk away disappointed. This is where I think this blog will help you. Sometimes we tend to overlook the fact that deep inside our closets, some of the outdated things we had never given much thought to, can be transformed into a lovely new garment. It is called the "art" of re-purposing. So before you head to the mall, take a look inside your closet and get a new perspective on the old things.
Proverbs 31:22
She makes coverings for herself;
Her clothing is fine linen and purple.

From the word of God

1 Timothy 4:12
Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.
